Cyprus Food Shopping

Shopping for yourself, it's easy to find your way around the supermarkets and corner stores in the South. Labelling is always in English as well as Greek.  Local dairy products in all flavours and sizes are conspicu- ous, as are smoked breakfast and picnic meats. Because of Cyprus' many immigrant communities. it's easier than in many Euro- pean countries to find exotic spices and condiments. In all of the major towns of the  South (except Larnaca), central market halls are excellent sources of farm produce and meat; additionally there are often lively streel markets immediately around them, for example in Pafos on Saturdays.

In the North things aren't so self-explanatory, nor abundant. but English labelling is on the rise, and you certainly won't starve if self-catering. There are central market halls for produce in Kyrenia and north Nicosia, and largish markets in central Kyrenia much like a medium-sized corner shop in North London -where many of the proprietors are likely to have spent time. The biggest supermarket chain is Lemar, with particularly convenient ones at both the western and eastern edges of Kyrenia.
